Library Services

ABC Express
Books and journals located at the WSU and ASU are accessible via ABC Express, our Monday-Wednesday-Friday network courier service.

Interlibrary Loan
This service provides access to material not held by any of the three university libraries (ASU, UNCA, WCU).

Reference Services
Ramsey reference Librarians are here to help you find and use library materials or to locate sources of information.

Ask A Librarian
This service is a convenient way for UNCA students to ask brief reference questions via e-mail.

Distance & Virtual Education Services
Library services available to students enrolled in distance education courses taught via teleconference and virtual courses that communicate through web pages, discussion lists or e-mail.

Reference books and print resources are often overlooked, but can provide valuable information that is often not available online. The following print sources are available in the reference area of Ramsey Library:

Government Information

Tracing Legislation

LexisNexis Academic. Government and political news, Federal and state case law, federal and state rules and regulations, law reviews. Full-text.

Thomas. House & Senate information, full text access to current bills, links to more congressional information. Full-text. THOMAS is a service of the Library of Congress.

GPO Access. Gateway to searchable databases, such as the Federal Register, Congressional Record, Congressional Bills and other sources.

North Carolina General Assembly. Current and prior session information.


Other Government Resources

Administration for Children and Families (ACF). ACF brings together Federal programs that address the needs of children and families, such as Head Start (Early Childhood Development Program) and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, which replaces the AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children) and JOBS (Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training) programs.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. Searchable compendium of Federal financial and non-financial assistance programs, projects, services, and activities administered by departments and establishments of the Federal government.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services - Grants and Funding. Internet application tool created by HHS for grant information sharing.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. From the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Kids Count. A project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the U.S. 

National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information. For professionals seeking information on the preventionn, identification, and treatment of child abuse.

Office of Child Support Enforcement. Part of ACF, this site includes the Child Support Steps fact sheet in English and Spanish, plus a listing of state and local agencies which assist OCSE in enforcing the Child Support Recovery Act of 1992.

Poverty Guidelines. Current poverty thresholds used for administrative purposes, such as   determining financial eligibility for certain federal programs.

Social Security Administration. Information for the general public and data resources.

The White House. Information from the President, links to executive and independent agencies.
