Information Literacy & Outreach Librarian

Duties

University of North Carolina at Asheville's Ramsey Library seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and service-oriented librarian to coordinate and expand Ramsey Library's information literacy and outreach services supporting the instructional and research needs of the UNC Asheville community.

Working collaboratively in a team-based environment, the Information Literacy & Outreach Librarian will coordinate, plan, and promote the library's instruction program and its assessment, identify and use technology to develop materials or learning modules that teach research skills, serve as the library's liaison to the University's Integrative Liberal Studies (ILS) program, and participate as a member of the ILS Information Intensive Courses Committee. The Information Literacy Librarian will actively pursue outreach partnerships with campus programs and departments and seek opportunities to integrate library resources and instruction into academic and special programs. Additional responsibilities include sharing research desk duties as a member of the Public Services Team, providing instruction and training to students, faculty, and staff that may include for-credit courses and classroom instruction, and collection development duties as subject bibliographer and liaison to assigned academic departments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited graduate program; successful experience or training in library user education and/or instructional technology; successful experience or training in the use of traditional and electronic reference sources available in an academic library; strong understanding of key issues and trends in the design and delivery of library instruction in support of the academic mission of the university; skills to develop relevant and engaging instruction materials in collaboration with others; evidence of initiative, creative energy, resourcefulness; demonstrated excellent written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work flexibly, collaboratively, and collegially in an ever-evolving electronic environment; strong commitment to public service and UNC Asheville's liberal arts mission

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to applicants with the following: reference desk experience in an academic library; experience with course management software; experience or training in the use of Web authoring tools and desktop publishing software; experience or training in library collection development; successful teaching experience.
