Request for Purchase of Periodical Subscription

• The death rate among newly published periodicals is high and those that survive are often not indexed for some time.
• Today's subscription costs will at least double during the next decade.
• Too much of our current periodical collection is unused either by students or faculty.

BACKFILE OPTION

Many journals can be purchased as backfile subscriptions on microform, which are usually much less expensive than receiving the paper issues as they are published. When purchased in this way, we would receive an entire volume of the journal on microfilm or microfiche six months to a year after the initial paper publication.

Since it takes about the same amount of time for most periodicals to be indexed as it does for them to appear in film or fiche backfile, we would be receiving them at the point where their usefulness for research really begins.
