The Media Center collections include DVD's, videocassettes, CD sound recordings, audiocassettes, CD-ROM software, and curriculum kits, non-print reserve materials and equipment.

Services

The Ramsey Library Media Center houses non-print materials and provides services to support current and anticipated teaching and research needs in all fields of study at UNCA. Students, faculty and staff benefit from the Media Center's listening, viewing and multimedia workstations. The wide range of audio, video, laser disc, and DVD collections provides resources for course assignments, research and recreational use.

Media Center services include circulation of media materials and equipment, viewing stations and rooms, multimedia workstations, distribution and set-up of equipment in classrooms and other campus facilities and video and audio production services and facilities. Additional services include teleconference facilities and management of Lipinsky Auditorium.

Media Center Hours

The Media Center is Open
Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Borrowing Privileges

Either a valid UNCA, WCU or ASU identification card or a College for Seniors or Friends of Ramsey Library card is required to check out library materials. Some of the media resources circulate for varying time periods. Some are for use only within the building. Refer to the "Library Materials - Circulation Periods" chart or contact the media center service desk (251-6996). Equipment is available in the media center for group or individual listening or viewing. Check out and return media materials and equipment at the media center circulation desk.

Space and Equipment

  • Foreign Language Listening Stations - The media center facilities supplement basic classroom instruction of the Foreign Language Department. Six listening stations provide user-controlled recording and playback for foreign language practice. Students can also access and use library audio and video tapes and CD-ROM study resources on site.
  • Individual and Group Listening and Viewing - Individual stations with headphones and viewing rooms are provided for playing and listening to videocassettes, DVDs, laser discs, audio CDs, and cassette tapes.
  • Multimedia Stations - Students and faculty can use multimedia CD-ROM's that have been placed on reserve for UNCA courses.
  • Seminar Rooms - In the Media Center, there are two fully equipped seminar rooms which offer suitable settings for multimedia presentations. For information about room offerings and reservations, contact the media desk at 251-6996.

Academic Video Production

Academic Video Production, located in the Ramsey Library Media Center, provides studio and field shootings, video editing planning and technical support, lighting operation and scheduling of equipment and services for UNCA students, faculty and staff. Lipinsky Auditorium & Lobby

The campus auditorium is a 614 seat facility used for large classes and lectures, registration, orientations, cultural and special events and programs produced by campus and community groups and organizations.
