You want to learn how to connect to electronic resources from off campus.
You are a student enrolled in a UNCA affiliated distance education courses taught via teleconference.
You are enrolled in a UNCA extension or continuing education course taught at an off-campus location.
You are enrolled in a virtual course that communicates through Web pages, discussion lists or e-mail, and does not meet on campus or via teleconference.
You commute to UNCA to attend classes and find it difficult to get to the library, even when you need help!
You teach UNCA distance education or virtual courses.
If you are enrolled in UNCA credit bearing courses you
should have a UNCA One Card, the
official school ID.

If you are enrolled in UNCA continuing education or extension courses for CEU credit, your instructor will give you a special Extension and Distance Education library ID card. This card entitles you to the same borrowing privileges granted to Friends of the Library and is valid for the duration of the course. To check out books or other library materials, you must always present the Extension and Distance Education library ID with a photo ID (driver’s license, etc.).

that you are in the library database, please call the circulation desk at 828

Access to library resources and services is an
essential part of a college education, regardless of where students, faculty,
and courses are located. Services to distance learners include:
A “Personal” Librarian
For questions about student
orientations to online resources, reference services, or problems accessing
library materials, whether on-line or otherwise, contact Anita White-Carter,

"Ask-A-Librarian” Reference Services
"Real-time"
reference assistance is available over the phone during regular reference desk
hours, including most nights and weekends. Call us at (828) 251-6111 and talk
to a real live person. Regular reference desk hours:

Search WNCLN, the combined library catalog of UNCA, ASU, WCU.
Find out how to request a book or journal on ABC Express.
Find volumes or issues of a specific journal, magazine, or newspaper are available at UNCA, ASU, or WCU. To find articles on specific topics you should search an index to periodicals. Select indexes from the General Indexes list or from a subject category.
View a list of library materials
you have checked out or renew
books.
Access a list of materials an instructor has placed on reserve.

using library resources. This site provides online learning modules
for developing skills sets such as creating a
research strategy, finding books and articles, and evaluating information
found on the web. The site contains modules for
students and
faculty.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
UNCA students, faculty, staff, and students from other campuses who
are taking credit coursework
at UNCA may use the ILL service. Interlibrary loan for students is used to
support courses or credit-bearing research projects offered at UNCA
Fill out an
interlibrary loan
request for books and journal articles that are not available at UNCA, ASU or WCU. You will be notified by e-mail
when your requested material arrives, but you will need to visit the UNCA
Circulation Desk to pick it up.

Connect to electronic resources from

(Available only to UNCA users with an official One Card ID.)
Access a list of periodical indexes and reference resources
organized by
subject. To find journal, magazine, or newspaper articles, choose an index
to search from the
General
Indexes list or a
subject

Access a list of
Reference
Resources available on the World Wide Web. Access an online
encyclopedia, find biographical information, or other facts.
Search netLibrary
and access more than 14,000
online reference, scholarly, and professional books. Downloadable
fiction, non-fiction, and language-learning audio books are also available.
Off-campus access requires initial password creation from UNCA campus or
other UNC system or NC public library. NetLibrary is an NC
Live database.
Search the
