Classroom Technology Support

Located on the lower floor of Ramsey Library, CTS provides technology services to support current and anticipated teaching and research needs in all fields of study at UNCA.

CTS services include circulation of analog and digital equipment, availability of viewing stations and rooms, multimedia workstations, distribution and set-up of equipment in classrooms and other campus facilities.  CTS also provides video and audio production services (duplication and format transfer).  For classroom technology support, equipment and room reservation and duplication/transfer services, contact Chris Asbill, CTS Manager, at 251-6996/6540, email casbill@unca.edu or media_request@unca.edu.

Viewing & Presentation Rooms

The Whitman room, RL101, capacity 30,  located on the main floor of the library,  is primarily a viewing and multimedia presentation facility and can be reserved by contacting CITS.  It can be used in conjunction with the Red Oak Conference Room, RL100, which is scheduled by Lynne Olin, 251-6729, olin@unca.edu.

RL009, capacity 20, is located on the lower floor of the library.  In addition to a viewing and a multimedia presentation room, it can also be scheduled for classes via Pat McClellan, 251-6001, pmcclell@unca.edu.

Borrowing Privileges

A valid UNCA One Card ID is required to check out equipment.  Equipment may be checked out and returned at the CITS circulation desk.  Reservations are highly recommended and  can be made by calling 251-6996 or email media_request@unca.edu.

Equipment

·         Equipment Available for Check Out: Video/Data (a.k.a.LCD) Projectors, PC & MAC laptops, Overhead Transparency Projectors, 35mm Slide Projectors, VCRs, DVD Players, MiniDV Digital Camera, VHS Camcorders, Tripods, Handheld and tabletop Audio Cassette Recorders, CD players, Headphones and wireless microphone kits.

·         Classroom Support:  All equipment described above is available for set up in classrooms and teaching facilities on campus.  Requests for this service can be made by calling 251-6996/6540 or email media_request@unca.edu.  Please provide at least a 24-hour notice.

·         Individual and Group Listening and Viewing – Individual/Group viewing stations with headphones and group viewing rooms are provided for viewing and listening to videocassettes, DVDs, audio CDs, and audio cassette tapes.

Video Production

Video Production, located on the lower floor of Ramsey Library, provides studio and field shootings, video editing planning and technology support, lighting operation and scheduling of services for UNCA students, faculty and staff. Campus Auditoria

Lipinsky Auditorium is a 600 seat space used for large classes and lectures, registration, orientations, cultural and special events and programs produced by campus and community groups and organizations. 

     

The Carmichael Humanities Lecture Hall is a 300 seat facility used for group lectures, meetings, and campus-sponsored special events.

Distance Learning Services

The Distance Learning Services administrative office is located in Rhoades Hall 105a.  The primary purpose of the Distance Learning Services unit is to provide instructional and curricular support services to faculty, staff, and students utilizing associated distance learning facilities and equipment at the University of North Carolina Asheville.  UNC Asheville has two primary interactive video conference facilities, The Steelcase Teleconference Center located in Robinson Hall 129 and the Square D Teleconference center located in Ramsey Library 011.  These facilities are available to both campus and non-campus individuals and groups. 

Associated services include; advanced two way interactive videoconferencing facilities; multimedia systems support, to include analog to digital video capture, archival of multimedia material; synchronous and asynchronous web-based content delivery system support (Elluminate and WebCT)
