Recovery depends on the definition of the disaster.
Prepare an inventory of hardware, software, systems, peripherals. Determine
the critical components of the technology.
Document the technology in the UNIT. Use a chart to identify the systems
used by the unit, how the systems are installed, how are they backed up, how
are they supported.
We have a very complex technology in the library. That complexity is the
Achilles heel in any recovery effort.
Recovery can be simplified by standardizing all desktops and laptops used in
the area. Be sure you document the exceptions to the standardized desktop.
Keep a back-up of your desktop on the library server.
Determine what systems are critical to operation in your area..
Determine how those systems are backed up and how they would be recovered.
Do you know where your backup tapes are stored and how frequently they are
backed up? Find out.
Keep IT informed of any critical changes in your technology.
