"Train Wreck," E.M. Ball Collection, UNC-Asheville, 1951 (GP2482)

Is your library a train wreck waiting to happen?

Library disasters happen. It is unlikely that we will crash and burn, but we could be derailed by any number of disasters. The following disaster plan manual has been prepared for the purpose of providing library staff with a framework for response to a variety of possible disasters and for recovery after the disaster. In addition to this plan, each unit of the library has been provided a DISASTER KIT of basic supplies and a laminated guide which provides a visual flow-chart for coping with the most common disasters. In addition to the flow-chart, the guide provides emergency telephone numbers and a map which shows the location of the unit DISASTER KITS and FIRE EXTINGUISHERS and EXITS. (Appendix I.1)

A copy of the Disaster Plan  is available on the Web  http://bullpup.lib.unca.edu/discplan/section_1.html

A paper copy of the Disaster Plan will be maintained by each of the following library units:

CIRCULATION

MEDIA SERVICES

REFERENCE & GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

TECHNICAL SERVICES

In addition to the above locations, copies will also be kept and maintained by the Office of the Library Director, Reserves, and at the home addresses of the designated Coordinators of the Disaster Team, in the event of an after-hours emergency. Copies will also be kept and maintained by the campus Health & Safety Office (6697) and by Public Safety (6710).
