Comments: During his senior year at The Citadel, Pat Conroy was the starting point guard on a mediocre varsity basketball team. Unlike the typical sports story, My Losing Season illustrates the life of a team that fails consistently, and how its members find ways to cope. In this autobiographical account, Conroy documents his fruitless search for a positive male role model, as he is raised by an abusive, callous father and coached by a bitter man who is more concerned that his players know their place than that they succeed. Recommended for basketball fans and people who are battling personal demons, or know someone who is.
